Even though I mention static websites above, many would be surprised what a tiny little VPS can achieve as long as caching is well managed, database queries are kept reasonable and so on. Overall people tend to overestimate the computing resources their web applications need.

However, hosting more demanding web applications on a tiny VPS is not worth the little savings you make, if you'd lose sleep or business because it can't handle some traffic spike.
